A movie documenting the last days of IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands has won the top award at the London Evening Standard Film Awards.

The film, Hunger, won the best film award.

Despite recent award ceremony successes, Slumdog Millionaire and Kate Winslet were not among the winners at the London ceremony.

The best director award was won by Stephen Daldry (The Reader), Tilda Swinton was named best actress for her role in Julia and the best actor award was shared between Michael Sheen for Frost/Nixon and Pat Shortt for Garage.
