Whoopi Goldberg will open the musical version of her hit comedy ‘Sister Act’ on London’s West End next summer, the actress has announced.
Goldberg will produce the show, which features music from multi-Oscar winning songwriter Alan Menken who wrote tracks for Disney movies including ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Beauty & The Beast’ and ‘Aladdin’.
“If you are fortunate enough to be a part of something wonderful, I feel it’s important to pass the baton,” Whoopi says.
“The best way for me to be a part of this new incarnation of ‘Sister Act’ is to make sure everyone knows it’s happening. The stage version of the show is fresh and new and I’m beyond thrilled to be part of it.”
‘Sister Act’, which starred Whoopi as a singer who goes into witness protection in a convent after witnessing a murder, was released in 1992. Its sequel was released in 1993.
